REVIEW: Mesotherapy for Anti Aging
I must admit that I felt a sense of trepidation when Lily Kew, founder of Glow Aesthetics invited me to try her Mesotherapy treatment. I did not fancy the thought of running needles all over my face. However, I decided to give it a try for vanity’s sake.
Lily greeted me at her newly-renovated spa and explained to me how Mesotherapy works. Electronic micro needles on a roller are rolled over the face to stimulate both collagen and elastin production. At the same time, antioxidant serums are applied together with the rolling process to increase the metabolic activity in the cells and create skin rejuvenation. It can be used to treat all skin problems – from acne to fine lines and pigmentation. Based on my skin, Lily chose needles that are 0.25mm complemented with a lifting serum.
What to expect during treatment:
After double cleansing my face and relaxing me with a short but divine lavender aromatherapy facial massage, my therapist applied the lifting serum on my right cheek and started the procedure. The needles felt like ant bites on my face and some areas of my face like under the eyes and on my forehead were more sensitive. Customers can also opt to have a numbing cream applied before the treatment to ease the discomfort. After doing my right side, my therapist let me compare it with my left side and I have to say that my right looked more plump and glowing.
Happy with the results, I gritted my teeth and let my therapist complete my left side. The procedure took less than 10 minutes and a cooling stem cells mask applied to my face and neck to soothe my skin as well as let it absorb more goodness. My therapist also gave me a very relaxing shoulder and head massage while I had my mask on and I soon drifted off to sleep. To finish the treatment, another layer of stem cells serum was applied to my face.
How long before results are seen:
My skin looked really radiant after the treatment with the serum on it. It was also slightly flushed, like I had been in the sun. I was advised not to wash my face and to continue using a moisturising serum for the rest of the day.
Number of treatments required:
About six to eight weekly treatments are recommended for best results.
Suitable for:
As this treatment targets all skin problems – from acne to wrinkles and whitening, it is suitable for everyone really. However, if your pain threshold is very low, please ask for numbing cream to be applied before the Mesotherapy.
Duration: 60 minutes
Cost: $480 per session, first-timers get to try it for $240
PPx for Hair Removal
Since I was there, I also asked Lily if I could try their PPx treatment to remove some stubborn hairs on my underarm. The PPx machine uses vacuum energy, bringing the problem spots closer to the light source. This action also momentarily elevates and stretches the skin by up to 35 per cent, and temporarily reduces the concentration of melanin and haemoglobin to enable a greater transmission of broadband light to the target spots. In layman terms, this means that up to five times more energy is able to reach the target, compared with other laser and IPL treatments. The procedure had a slight tugging action but otherwise, felt very comfortable. It was also over in less than five minutes.
Duration: Five minutes
Cost: $68 for first-time trial
