The Power Of Yellow
This laser will help you look as flawless on and off social media, #nofilterneeded!
Zap away unsightly pigmentation and redness with the world’s first pure yellow laser – which is the optimum wavelength for sun damage, age spots and veins. According to Dr Chiam Chiak Teng at Face, Body & Skin Aesthetics, QuadroStar ProYellow Laser is more suitable for ethnic skin than any other lasers. We find out more about this new treatment from him.
- What is QuadroStar ProYellow Laser?
The QuadroStar ProYellow is a new tabletop laser with laser energy emitted at 577nm, which is in the yellow light range. It is a very new machine and we are proud to say that we are the first clinic in Singapore to own this machine.
- How does the laser work?
The ProYellow laser emits light energy at 577nm, which allows us to very specifically target blood vessels and pigments in the skin. Because light is so well absorbed at this wavelength by pigments and blood vessels (up to 40% more), we are able to use lower power for treatments. This translates to less side effects and burns for patients, and we can safely treat most Asian skin types with this laser.
- How many treatments do you recommend and how often?
I would usually recommend a course of 5 to 6 treatments, 2 to 4 weeks apart depending on patient condition and expectations. For blood vessels and brightening, most patients can see visible improvements after 1 to 2 treatments. Patients usually see visible improvement of pigmentation after 3 to 4 treatments.
- What else is ProYellow Laser good for?
The ProYellow laser is also used for skin rejuvenation, acne control, and treatment of rosacea (diffuse facial redness). I also use the ProYellow laser for removal of warts, simple moles and skin tags.
- Besides pigmentation, what are the other common problems you see from your patients and the recommended treatments?
Acne and pore problems are very prevalent in our climate and we do have a lot of patients coming to us for acne control. Other than the ProYellow laser, our other very popular treatments for acne are the Carbon Laser peel and also the Hydrafacial. By combining these treatments we have managed to get a very high level of satisfaction from our acne patients.
Skin ageing and sagging is another common problem we see in our practice. We practise a multimodal approach to counter skin ageing, ranging from daily skincare, less invasive treatments such as Botox, fillers, lasers and light treatments, to minimally invasive treatments such as Threadlifts. Our treatments are tailored for our individual patient’s expectations and lifestyle, so it is rare to see two patients on the exact same regime.
Treatment process:
After a skin consultation, Dr Chiam confirmed that I have sensitive skin, especially around my forehead and said that ProYellow Laser would help with that, as well as give me overall rejuvenation. After cleansing my skin, a cold gel was applied and Dr Chiam used the laser to scan my entire face for the first treatment of skin rejuvenation. This was followed by precise pigment lasering which he did wearing special magnifying glasses.
The treatment felt prickly and was very bearable – no numbing cream was needed. At the end of the laser, their in-house post-laser serum, crystal clear cream and tinted sunblock was applied. Aside from slight flushing, my skin looked radiant and I was able to leave the clinic make-up free. Dr Chiam told me to expect slight scabbing on the pigmented areas, which will fall off after a few days. Looking forward to crystal-clear skin!
