What happens when Thermage and Ultherapy have a baby? You get Sofwave.

I’ve done both treatments before, and if I had to choose just one, Sofwave wins. It gives you the skin-lifting and wrinkle-smoothing benefits, but without making you question all your life choices halfway through the treatment.

This has officially become my new favourite aesthetic treatment.

Sofwave works by tightening the skin and improving skin texture. It stimulates collagen production to soften fine lines and wrinkles, leaving your skin looking firmer and plumper. What I really like is that it doesn’t target the fat layer, so there’s no concern about facial fat loss. Instead, it focuses on giving your skin that smooth, bouncy, “hard-boiled egg” or pudding-like quality that everyone wants.

Treatment process

Before we started, I had numbing cream on for about an hour. I’d read that Sofwave can be painful, but honestly, after surviving Thermage FLX, this felt like a breeze. There were a couple of “Ow!” moments, but overall it was very manageable. I even found myself chatting throughout most of the session.

Dr Marcus was another highlight of the experience. He has an incredible depth of knowledge about skin and ageing, and I left the treatment having learnt so much. In fact, he even managed to convince me to try Botox for the very first time (which I did immediately after my Sofwave session!).

I had around 300 shots over eight passes across my face. The larger treatment head also meant it covered more surface area with each pass, so the session was much quicker than I expected.

The best part? There was virtually no downtime. I went straight to dinner afterwards looking completely normal.

Results

You won’t walk out looking dramatically different overnight. Around a week later, I started noticing that my skin felt smoother and looked fresher. The improvements continue over the next few months as collagen builds, so the results just keep getting better.

And here’s the part I love most: unlike many aesthetic treatments that need regular maintenance, Sofwave is typically only done once a year.

My review after 2 weeks

When I went back for my two-week review, we compared my before-and-after photos side by side, and that’s when I really appreciated the difference. While the changes are subtle, they create a noticeable overall refresh. My face looks more lifted, especially through the mid-face and around the mouth, giving me a more rested and rejuvenated appearance.

The eye area also has a gentle lift, making my eyes look brighter, with visible improvement under the eyes. My jawline appears more defined, and even my neck bands have softened, creating a smoother, more elegant transition between my jawline and neck.

It’s not the kind of treatment where people will immediately ask, “What did you have done?” Instead, you’ll probably hear, “You look really well,” without anyone quite being able to put their finger on why. And honestly, I think that’s exactly the kind of result I was hoping for.
