Rosacea Laser Treatment

Rosacea is a skin disease that causes redness and pimples on your nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead. The
redness may come and go. People sometimes call rosacea "adult acne" because it can cause outbreaks that look like
acne. It can also cause burning and soreness in the eyes and eyelids.
What causes rosacea?
Rosacea is a general appearance of
facial redness, such as rosy cheeks. This condition is caused by dilated capillaries, resulting in an
appearance of general redness, not discrete, well-defined vessels. The most common affected areas are the
nose, forehead and cheeks. Things that cause a flare-up are called
triggers. Common triggers are exercise, sun and wind exposure, hot weather, stress, spicy foods, alcohol, and hot
baths.
What are the symptoms?
People with rosacea may have:
- A flushed face and pimples or bumps on or around the
cheeks, nose, mouth, and forehead. Sometimes the flushing or redness can last for days.
- Burning or stinging facial skin, especially when they
apply lotions or medicines. The face may feel increasingly dry, sensitive, or sunburned.
- Dry, red, irritated eyes. The eyelids may look red and
swollen, and vision may be blurry. If it is not treated, rosacea can cause serious eye
problems.
- Tiny red veins on the face that look like
spiderwebs.
Laser treatment for rosacea will help by gently treating and reducing
this condition.
How does laser treatment for rosacea work?
By gently heating the upper dermis well below your skin's surface, the laser treatment will
stimulate collagen regrowth and additional heat is also generated in dilated capillaries to reduce
redness.
How does the procedure feel like?
Patients often describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic. You will experience a gentle
warming of your skin's surface during the procedure as the laser handpiece is moved back and forth above your
skin. You can return to normal activities immediately, but use sunscreen when you are outdoors.
How many laser treatments will I need?
On average, you may require four to six treatments in order to achieve optimal results. Every
patient's condition varies, so the doctor will advise accordingly.
